of an African Model for Digital Library Development

Digital
technology is a driving force behind many of the changes occurring
globally in higher education. The pilot digital imaging project
in South Africa, DISA, has developed tools for capacity building
to support new ways of learning and conducting research to
meet a changing model of education. This article defines an
approach to building digital research resources appropriate
to the needs of the African continent. Through the development
of an open source environment that supports international
standards for the capture and storage of digital data, it
is possible to create a sustainable infrastructure for a digital
learning environment.

Partner countries to develop African Union Catalogue
During the First ODINAFRICA Training Course in Marine Information
Management (see above) the ODINAFRICA Partner countries were
provided with the INMAGIC for Libraries Software. They will
not only use this software to manage their libraries (catalogue.,
suppliers, lending, acquisition, ILL,...) but also to develop
an African Union catalogue of ocean libraries. The Union catalogue
will be available on CD-ROM and on the web.
Pendant le Premier atelier de formation en gestion de l'information
marine (voir ci-dessus) les pays partenaire ODINAFRICA ont
étés fournis du logiciel INMAGIC pour bibilthèques.
Is pourront utliser ce logiciel non seulement pour la gestion
de la bibliothèque (catalogue, fournisseurs, empruntes,
acquisition, ILL,...) mais également pour le développement
d'un catalogue unifié des bibliothèques marines
pour l'Afrique. Le catalogue sera disponible sur CD-ROM et
sur le web.
